California’s NEW Joint Petition for Divorce or Legal separation

A step forward toward respectful divorces

If you and your spouse are committed to working together to resolve all aspects of your divorce or legal separation without going to Court and asking a Judge to decide for you, then this brand, new divorce option may be for you.

Instead of one party being the Petitioner who files for the divorce you both are Petitioners. You don’t have to “serve” the other party with paperwork that starts out with the phrase “You have been sued”.

Instead of having to label custody, declare your preference on spousal support and list your separate and community property, you merely commit that you are going to come to an agreement on all issues. That means you both intend to control the outcome, not a Judge.

There is no stigma attached to who filed for the divorce, or concern as to what boxes were checked on the Petition and Response. You can both still use your own attorneys or you can use this method in mediation.
